Mucilage!!

That bug is stuck by mucilage…soon to be digested by the meat-eating plant. Yup, the all-purpose glue of our childhood is a sticky substance produced by many plants.

Believe it or not, mucilage is edible, and has traditionally been used as a demulcent…that is, as a cough suppressant and to soothe inflamed mucous membranes and gastro-intestinal irritation. Marshmallows, before they were made of sugar, were made from an extract of the mucilaginous root of the marshmallow plant.

And you know what? In this day of Elmer’s glue, Krazy Glue and glue-sticks, mucilage is still available.  And still with that funky rubber applicator tip…Bon appetit.

shameless plugs and sticky wickets…

    Stolf,

You are my hero. I miss listening to you and Cool Daddy on Cool Oldies 95.3. You are the only other human being I know of, besides myself, existing in the Northern NY area who has as much love of all things retro and nostalgic. Did I mention I’m only 25?

    Keep ruling hard.
