Cherchezing les Femmes

In this day of Photoshopping, I don’t blame you for doubting your own eyes. Still, altho photographs have been doctored forever, this one is dead real. It’s been around since it was snapped…along with several others…in 1957 at a restaurant called Romanoff’s in Beverly Hills. Sophia Loren is “caught looking,” checking out the competition as it were, which in this case is the pneumatic ( as it used to be called) Jayne Mansfield. Gosh, I can still remember Jayne’s many appearances on the Sauturday night Jackie Gleason show. I was about at that age when I knew something was cooking, just didn’t know quite what yet.

Next we have Roger Daltrey taking a bean bath, from the Who’s 1968 LP, and UK starlet Edina Ronay. Now baked beans in a tomato sauce is a British favorite, and it’s served at all meals, including the middle-class equivalent of our supper, which they call “tea.” Yes, it’s completely natural for an English Mom to tell her child: “Eat your tea.” But it’s especially favored on toast for breakfast…in fact, some think you can’t have a proper breakfast without beans.

And finally, Black Nylons in Spaaaaaaaaaaaace! Ya gotta love it. And as a bonus, below is a screen capture from a Star Trek blooper reel, with Bill Shatner rolling on the floor of the bridge with Grace Lee Whitney as Yeoman Rand…first name?…5 seconds…Janice is correct.
